Tomos in the UK. A question.

Tomos are back in the UK with the Classic XL 45.
This will be followed soon by the Racing 45 and the Flexer 45.
http://tomosgb.com/

All is well and good. :)

I personally own 2 1986 A3MS models. One is fully original and is running fine. The other ....er.....isn't.
The spoked wheels on both are a bit (OK a lot  ) rusty and I am looking to replace them.

The wheels on the Classic XL 45 look like they will do the job very nicely so I email the Tomos GB people.
Twice.

They however seem to be absent. No reply in a week.

Has anybody else had problems getting hold of them?
Do they even sell spares?

Does anybody know if the wheels from the Classic XL will fit the A3MS without serious modification?

I guess if anybody knows the answers it will be you guys.

Hi Cutegargoyle, welcome to our forum. Nice to hear that even in the UK Tomos is present. Forgive me if I make mistakes in typo, because it's not my native language and I have to write this message with help of Google translate. Ik hope it's ok and you understand what I mean.

To answer your questions, I expect that you have used the form on their site? I normally use the direct email address from Tomos Netherlands : tomos@motana.nl, but that's no guarantee you get your answers sooner. You can try to send it there. Of course, because of the Dutch holidays, it's not uncommon you don't get an answer immediately. Please have some patience. For as far as I know, they don't sell parts/ spares. You need to go to the local reseller or try finding online if someone is selling second hand parts. Maybe you can order on the Dutch sites mentioned on the forum. Please keep in mind that there might be some extra costs for shipping and handling.

Maybe it's possible to re-chrome the wheels? On every show on the Discovery Channel I see that in the UK there are many businesses that do refurbishing (e.g. classic car details).

I assume that the wheels of the 45 Classic will fit, the rim diameter must be the same as every other "classic" Tomos model of that kind (except for the front wheel of the Revival model, that one is 17") . But you can go to you local reseller to see and measure if there are any major differences. On the site you mentioned they have under the tab "Support" a PDF file of spare parts of the classic XL. As far as I have seen in this spare parts manual there are no differences between the "oldskool" models and the new Classic XL.

Thank you for the answers shadowranger :) Your English is good.
I understand it anyway. 8)

I have emailed every address Tomos UK have. No answers. I will try the one you sent to me.
They are still trying to set up local resellers so at this time so currently there are no spare parts available.
Why Tomos UK think people will buy a product that isn't supported with spares is very strange.

http://www.en.easyparts.nl/ used to supply all Tomos parts for all models to the UK but they seem to have stopped and now only supply a very limited range.

I would try re-chroming the wheels but it is very very expensive. Probably more expensive than new wheels!
This is why I am trying to get new wheels. (One quote was more expensive than a whole new bike  )

I can only find one place that sells complete wheels for the Tomos and it is in the USA. I am awaiting their quote.

I will keep posting how things are going just in case any other people from the UK find the site.
