ooh at the inlet of the cilinder, It makes some difference indeed, but its not really wise to do so.
There is a too big hole in the cilinder wall in wich your piston ring can get stuck behind which will screw up your cilinder.
I drove a while without that piece, and its not a very good solution to go harder.
Instead you could use a bigger carb or better exhaust.
